Soor plooms

Soor plooms are slightly acidic in flavour. They are reputed to have first been created in 1337 in commemoration of a battle in which a raiding party from England were overwhelmed and killed by locals from Galashiel. The Englishmen had been eating unripe plums when they were discovered.
